Interview with Miranda - Young professionals program

With roots in Spain and a keen interest in validation and quality assurance, Miranda has hit the ground running after graduation. The desire to use both theory and practice in real life science assignments after graduation led Miranda to apply to Plantvision's Young Professionals Program.

Miranda Lindén Lobato, 27, moved to Sweden ten years ago with her family from Madrid, Spain, when her father got a job here. First they went to high school in Norrköping, and then studied for a master's degree in biotechnology at the Royal Institute of Technology (KTH).

- "After high school, I wanted to study biotechnology, which I started. After two years into my studies, I felt that maybe it wasn't quite me, I wanted more of a human focus, so I changed my program to biomedical analyst at KI, which I don't regret for a second!".

With a keen interest in nature and the outdoors, Miranda has been involved in the Home Guard in her spare time as a Home Guard soldier for four years.

- "I enjoy being out in the forest, hiking and picking mushrooms when available, and the Home Guard gives me the chance to do that. It's great to live in a tent and contribute to something good while being close to nature."

Fun first weeks at Plantvision

Miranda sums up her first time at Plantvision as intense, fun and full of new impressions.

- "The first time has felt very, very good. We received a warm welcome and felt from the first day that we are always guided and supported. There is plenty of room for questions and time to grow into everything. I have only positive feelings about the first weeks."

Miranda says her expectations for the first time have been exceeded. She was hoping for a good atmosphere and culture, but the fact that it was even better was a positive surprise.

- "I had no direct expectations about the content itself, but you can read about Great Place to Work, so I had expectations that it would be true and that the culture would be as warm as it was described. And it really has been exceeded!"

The decision to apply for the program at Plantvision

Miranda's passion for validation and quality assurance comes up several times when we talk. She says that she loves working with all the small parts of projects, planning, finding solutions and making sure that everything is connected and correct. Therefore, the idea from the beginning was to start working in a lab after graduation to get started with the professional life.

- 'During the training, I had different internships with different specializations. We had courses in quality assurance and I liked that, so the idea was to start working in a lab. But then I found the Young Professionals Program and realized that I can start working with what I want right away instead."

A future with endless possibilities

- "There is so much to learn in quality assurance and validation, it never gets boring. I like the variety and the opportunity to develop in more areas and try different types of assignments."

A major advantage of working as a consultant in Life Science, Miranda says, is the opportunity for development and to be on different assignments and see many different types of companies, environments, processes and procedures. An experience that she sees as valuable in the long run.

- "I want to try different jobs in the future, maybe try different industries, not only Pharma but also areas like medical devices, invitro diagnostics and IVDR regulations. I've worked in hospitals and labs and seen many areas of improvement, so it would be great to work on improvements and make a difference."

When asked what she is most looking forward to after the program, Miranda quickly answers with one word - Mission. Being able to use the theory from her studies in real life is something she longs for.

- "It will be great fun to be out with the customer in reality, to see the environment and their routines. There is no one right way for everyone; it will probably vary depending on the company and the customer, and it will be fun to gain insight into their working methods, routines and structures, how they work and do that particular assignment!"

What do you look for in an employer? What is most important to you?

- " I get the chance to do new things and personal development. This opportunity is available at Plantvision, and it is not a given with all employers."

Finally, three quick tips for students today

Create good relationships with good supervisors at different internships, it will be a good network and you will learn more. If there is an opportunity to be physically at Location at hybrid events or meetings, do so, you will get more out of the experience and contacts at real meetings.

And the third one is, take the opportunity to apply for the Plantvision Young Professionals Program 2024. Or as they say in Spanish: "Bienvenidos a solicitar el trabajo!". Miranda concludes.
