Challenges
There is a need to be able to present status information visually. This is to get an overview of the dependencies on associated components, subsystems and main systems.
Documents in turn have status management for workflow regarding issuance, review and approval.
The visual tool also needs a search function to display only items for a specific status, as well as search for the person responsible for the status.
You also want to be able to see if any component is part of an ongoing change.
Solution
It was natural to use the status management engine built into COMOS.
Components can be presented at different stages of completion during construction. This is because different disciplines work with the same components during the design phase.
Components can also be visualised as purchased, assembled, tested, commissioned, etc. It is also possible to show which components are under change management.
Result
Since the built-in COMOS status management function was used, a quick visualization is provided by a database search. The solution is easy to use and intuitive. It was also easy to configure.
Status management has provided a systemic support between design disciplines and for project management and production to show the status of the plant and to show which components and documents are under review and approval process or are part of an ongoing change.
This has helped to prioritise work efforts more easily, clarify bottlenecks and create a good overview. Internal communication has been facilitated.
