Plantvision and WithSecure intensify security cooperation in Life Sciences

With a new geopolitical security situation at the same time as the life science sector faces new compliance requirements with NIS 2, collaboration is stepped up to equip customers' processes and defenses. "IT threats to the life science sector are becoming more and more serious, and the requirements for compliance throughout the value chain are becoming increasingly tough, especially in connection with NIS 2," says Anna-Lena Mann, Business Area Manager Compliance at Plantvision.

IT security company WithSecure™ (formerly F-Secure Business) and consulting firm Plantvision announce that the companies are intensifying their collaboration in Sweden. The collaboration is designed to help customers in Life Science to coordinate the work on cyber security and compliance. The collaboration is particularly relevant in connection with the European Commission's revision of the current NIS Directive and the publication of NIS 2, which further tightens security and risk management requirements.

"IT threats to the life science sector are increasing in number and severity, and compliance requirements across the entire value chain are getting tougher, especially in the context of NIS 2," says Anna-Lena Mann, Business Area Manager Compliance at Plantvision. "It requires coordinated efforts that both focus on patient safety and protect suppliers from major potential financial damage. Cybersecurity and training must be built into customers' processes," says Anna-Lena Mann.

The new NIS Directive (NIS 2) will become part of Swedish legislation already in October next year (2024). The purpose is partly to broaden the number of sectors covered and to create a better common level of security within the EU. This is done through, among other things, new requirements for risk management and incident reporting, incident management and security in applications and infrastructure. Within the framework of NIS2 and life science as a sector, a lot of initiatives are thus required in the security work and preparations to meet the new security requirements.

"In the Life Science industry, we see more and more complex IT attacks targeting companies and authorities", says Ingrid Waldheim, Managing Consultant at WithSecure. "Cybersecurity compliance is a complex area, and our customers need to continuously ensure that they are in line with the laws and regulations. Through the collaboration with Plantvision, we can offer our customers in the pharmaceutical and medical device industry just that", says Ingrid Waldheim.

WithSecure and Plantvision will offer workshops, events and training on what NIS 2 means and how businesses should respond to it.

Together, the companies have over 50 years of experience in helping companies in the healthcare and life science sectors to implement business-oriented processes and working methods according to the regulations in cyber security and compliance to ensure compliance and an increased level of security.
