Team Operational Technology: unique skills solve complex challenges

Cyber-attacks, and complex data integrity and compliance requirements (such as the NIS2 Directive), affect a huge number of businesses and organizations. We are in a new era where breaches and threats are not always physical, but in many cases digital and technological. Operational Technology (OT) includes solutions that enable businesses to protect their facilities against cyber threats as well as physical threats, which is crucial in an era of increasing cyber attacks.

This is the story of the Operational Technology team.

Unique & different - together they form a strong team

Team OT consists of ten people, all with unique skills and varying degrees of experience, but most have an engineering background, or equivalent technical history. They are OT architects, cybersecurity experts, infrastructure managers, product owners or project managers and together they can, in different ways, contribute to 360-degree delivery of OT solutions.

But how did these individuals end up in our OT team and what skills do they have?

"The members of our team all have unique journeys that brought them to us and to Plantvision. Some joined us specifically for the expertise we offer, particularly in dealing with complex data integrity and compliance requirements such as the NIS2 Directive. Others initially joined us in other roles and groups, but evolved towards OT and cybersecurity over time. What they all have in common is a desire to develop in an environment where cybersecurity is the focus.

The team is diverse, with a mix of senior and junior staff, engineers, project managers and specialists in different fields. It is largely thanks to this diversity that we are able to take on different roles and tasks, ensuring that we always have the right skills for each project. Another important part of our work is to continuously train both senior and junior colleagues, which helps everyone to grow and develop in their specialist areas," says Fredrik Arrigucci, Business Unit Manager, Team OT.

One of the great things about being part of a strong team is the sense of belonging and cohesion. There is always someone to consult or get support from and you never have to feel alone.

"The team's strength lies in our ability to be there for each other, which means that we don't have to feel alone in our assignments, even when we work remotely. We also work a lot on collaborative skills where we complement each other's knowledge and experience.Theresult of this is that we can handle the most complex challenges together," says Magnus Rosendahl, Consultant Manager, Operational Technology.

No man is an island

For our customers, the benefits of having the OT team on board are many as they get to benefit from their collective expertise. By working as a team, we can offer a holistic approach and solutions that are much more comprehensive and thoughtful than what a single consultant could offer. Strengthening industry's resilience to external threats gives the team a sense that their work is making a real difference.

Of course, not everything is always sunshine and roses for the OT team, there are challenges with the job too. Keeping up to date with the latest technological developments can be tough, despite the team's strong cohesion and support for each other. Another factor is that some clients have strict confidentiality requirements, which can make some parts of the collaboration more difficult, but it's even more important that the team shares knowledge among themselves and constantly stays up to date and informed about news and industry developments, so they can help each other move forward.

"We have an expression that puts into words how we think in the team and reinforces the feeling that we are never alone; I am not an expert in everything, but everyone in the team is an expert in something," says Fredrik with a smile.

Everyone in the team agrees that the job is most enjoyable when they work together, share knowledge and support each other in different assignments. They find the work environment dynamic and inspiring, where everyone has a voice and can contribute to solving complex problems that create great value for customers.

A good day at work is often about just that, helping customers move forward and solving problems. Whether it's recommending a product, setting up a server environment, implementing security solutions, or teaching a colleague something new, the team feels they have made a positive and significant difference.

We can only agree.

Magnus Rosendahl is a team leader and cybersecurity expert with extensive experience in the industry. We asked Magnus to tell us a little about what leadership means to him.

"I see leadership as a combination of collaboration, respect and communication. It is very important that as a team you can be seen and heard, both physically and digitally. In order to build a strong team where everyone can perform at their best, feel seen and appreciated, it is important to have a close and good contact. I believe that being responsive, supportive and encouraging are ingredients for success in a team, and in leadership," Magnus reflects.

We are humbled by the team's perceptions of us as an employer and proud of the company culture that we, and all our employees, work hard for every day. So, we're soaking up this review like a cotton ball under running water.

"Plantvision is a great employer that gives us the opportunity to immerse ourselves in our areas of specialization, while taking us out of the technical focus to explain and implement solutions for our customers. This balanced approach allows us to make a practical difference and also contributes to our personal and professional development.Theflexibility of working remotely also allows us to balance work and private life in an efficient and rewarding way," says Team OT.

And with those incredible words, we round off this team story. It has taught us that alone is not always strong, that problems are there to be solved and that the need for Operational Technology is urgent.

Do you want to be part of this team, or any of our other great teams? Then the timing couldn't be better because we have a couple of vacancies out there and maybe you're the perfect fit for one of them. After all, you want to influence your own tomorrow, right? Your first step towards personal development and life balance is just a click away.

We look forward to hearing your story.
